What Propolis contains
Propolis contains 300 active molecules and it consists of 30% wax, contained in Propolis or secreted by bees, 50% resins and balsamic substances, 10% essential oils, 5% pollen and 5% organic matter or minerals. The most interesting component is given by flavonoids that are chemical vegetable compounds spread in the higher plants containing versatile properties, among which the antioxidant ones, protecting the permeability of the blood and lymphatic capillaries and anti-inflammatory ones in the processes affecting the mucosa, the skin and the joints, and, among other factors, they favour the intake of the vitamin C and calcium. The main flavonoids present in Propolis are Pinocembrin, Galangin and Quercetin. Some phenolic compounds are present in Propolis (in particular Caffeic Acid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties).
